कुछ लोग होते हैं जो स्व के दायरे से आगे बढ़कर समाज के हित के लिए कार्य करते हैं। उनके भीतर एक अदम्य इच्छा शक्ति और संकल्प होता है कि वे अपने जीवन में कुछ ऐसा करें जो दूसरों के लिए प्रेरणा बन सके। स्व. नन्दकिशोर सिंह 'जयरामजी' ऐसे ही व्यक्तित्व के धनी थे। उनका जीवन शिक्षा और समाज सेवा को समर्पित था। उनके त्याग, लगन और अटूट कर्मठता ने उन्हें एक ऐसा व्यक्तित्व बनाया जिसने शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में क्रांति ला दी। उनका कार्य न केवल उस समय प्रेरणादायक था, बल्कि आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए भी प्रेरणा का स्रोत है।
जीवन परिचय और प्रारंभिक संघर्ष
‘जयरामजी’ का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के गाजीपुर जनपद के ग्राम रामपुर मांझा में 25 अक्टूबर 1897 को एक प्रतिष्ठित किसान परिवार में हुआ। यह वह समय था जब भारत पराधीन था, और समाज में शिक्षा का स्तर बेहद दयनीय था। गांवों में तो स्कूलों की व्यवस्था लगभग न के बराबर थी। ‘जयरामजी’ के गांव में भी कोई स्कूल नहीं था। कठिन परिस्थितियों के कारण वे केवल दूसरी कक्षा तक ही शिक्षा प्राप्त कर सके।
महज 18 वर्ष की आयु में उन्होंने कुछ बड़ा करने की ठानी। प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के समय उन्होंने सेना में भर्ती होकर टर्की और मिस्र की लड़ाई में भाग लिया। इस संघर्ष में उनकी पूरी टुकड़ी शहीद हो गई, लेकिन वे अकेले बच गए। यह घटना उनके जीवन का टर्निंग पॉइंट साबित हुई। उन्होंने महसूस किया कि उनके जीवन को बचने का कोई विशेष उद्देश्य है।
सेना से सेवानिवृत्त होकर वे मुंबई पहुंचे। बिना किसी सहारे और काम के सपनों को पूरा करना कठिन था। तमाम संघर्षों के बाद उन्होंने 1921 में घाटकोपर में पोस्टमैन की नौकरी शुरू की। लेकिन उनके भीतर कुछ करने की बेचैनी बनी रही। पोस्टमैन के रूप में कार्य करते हुए उन्होंने समाज की अशिक्षा को करीब से देखा। उन्होंने महसूस किया कि उनके जीवन का उद्देश्य शिक्षा के माध्यम से समाज की सेवा करना है। यह विचार उनके मन में गहराई तक समा गया।
हिन्दी हाई स्कूल की स्थापना
घाटकोपर और कल्याण के बीच उस समय हिंदी माध्यम का कोई स्कूल नहीं था। उन्होंने अपने जैसे कुछ शिक्षाप्रेमियों के साथ मिलकर 15 अगस्त 1938 को घाटकोपर की एक चाल के दो कमरों में 12 बच्चों के साथ एक हिंदी प्रायमरी पाठशाला शुरू की। यह केवल एक निर्णय नहीं, बल्कि उनका दृढ़ संकल्प था। शिक्षा मुफ्त थी। खर्च चलाने के लिए ‘जयरामजी’ ने चिट्ठी बांटते समय लोगों से चंदा इकट्ठा करना शुरू किया। चार आने, आठ आने का चंदा जुटाकर उन्होंने पाठशाला की जरूरतों को पूरा किया।
‘जयरामजी’ के प्रयासों से स्कूल की जरूरतें बढ़ने लगीं। 1946 में उनके नेतृत्व में घाटकोपर रेलवे स्टेशन के पास 2500 वर्ग गज का भूखंड खरीदा गया। 16 दिसंबर 1946 को हिन्दी हाई स्कूल भवन का शिलान्यास उनके ही करकमलों से हुआ। उस समय कोष में पांच रुपये भी नहीं थे, लेकिन उनकी इच्छाशक्ति और आत्मबल ने इसे संभव बना दिया। 1947 में हिंदी पाठशाला समिति का 'हिंदी विद्या प्रचार समिति' के रूप में पंजीकरण हुआ। 1949 में विद्यालय भवन का उद्घाटन तत्कालीन मुंबई प्रांत के मुख्यमंत्री श्री बी. जी. खेर ने किया। उन्होंने ‘जयरामजी’ की प्रशंसा करते हुए कहा, "विद्यालय को ऐसे तपस्वी का वरदहस्त प्राप्त है, जिससे हम गौरवान्वित हैं।"
महाविद्यालयीन शिक्षा का सपना
1963 में ‘जयरामजी’ ने रामनिरंजन झुनझुनवाला आर्ट्स एवं साइंस कॉलेज की स्थापना की। इस प्रकार उनका महाविद्यालयीन शिक्षा का सपना भी साकार हुआ। उन्होंने 1964 में अपने गांव रामपुर मांझा में भी एक इंटर कॉलेज की स्थापना की, जिससे ग्रामीण क्षेत्र में शिक्षा का प्रसार हुआ।
‘जयरामजी’ को अपने कार्यों में समर्पित सहयोगियों का साथ मिला। समिति के पदाधिकारियों में स्व. रामेश्वर प्रसाद साबू, स्व. ठा. ध्रुवराज सिंह, जुगलदास दामोदर मोदी तथा स्व. रामस्वरूप उपाध्याय जैसे कर्मठ लोगों ने उनका भरपूर साथ दिया।
12 बच्चों के साथ शुरू हुई पाठशाला से लेकर आर. जे. कॉलेज तक की यात्रा ‘जयरामजी’ के अटूट संकल्प और प्रबल इच्छाशक्ति का परिणाम थी। आज उनके द्वारा स्थापित विद्यालय और महाविद्यालय में लगभग 22,000 छात्र-छात्राएँ अध्ययनरत हैं। यह उनकी साधारण शुरुआत से असाधारण सफलता तक की कहानी है।
‘जयरामजी’ का व्यक्तित्व और शिक्षाओं का प्रभाव

His life was dedicated to education and social service. His sacrifice, hard work, and unwavering commitment made him a remarkable figure who brought about a revolution in the field of education. His work was not only inspiring at the time but continues to serve as a source of motivation for future generations.
Early Life and Struggles
'Jairamji' was born on 25th October 1897 in the village of Rampur Majha in the Gazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, in a respected farming family. This was a time when India was under colonial rule, and the state of education in the country was deplorable. In rural areas, there were hardly any schools. There was no school in Jairamji's village either, and due to difficult circumstances, he could only study up to the second grade. At the age of just 18, he decided to do something significant with his life. During World War I, he joined the army and fought in the battles in Turkey and Egypt. His entire unit was martyred, but he survived. This event proved to be a turning point in his life. He realized that there was a special purpose behind his survival. After retiring from the army, he arrived in Mumbai. With no support or job, fulfilling his dreams was challenging. After many struggles, he started working as a postman in 1921 in Ghatkopar. However, the desire to do something meaningful never left him. While working as a postman, he closely observed the illiteracy in society. He realized that his life's purpose was to serve society through education. This idea deeply resonated with him.
Establishment of Hindi High School
At that time, there was no school offering education in the Hindi medium between Ghatkopar and Kalyan. With a group of like-minded education enthusiasts, he began a Hindi primary school in a two-room chawl in Ghatkopar on 15th August 1938, with just 12 students. This was not just a decision, but a firm resolve. The school was free of charge. To fund the school’s expenses, 'Jairamji' began collecting donations from people while distributing letters. With donations of small amounts like four and eight annas, he met the school’s needs. Thanks to his efforts, the school’s requirements began to grow. In 1946, under his leadership, a plot of land measuring 2500 square yards was purchased near the Ghatkopar railway station. On 16th December 1946, the foundation stone of Hindi High School was laid by him. At that time, there was not a single rupee in the treasury, but his willpower and inner strength made it possible. In 1947, the Hindi Pathshala Samiti was registered as Hindi Vidya Prakashan Samiti. The school building was inaugurated in 1949 by Shri B.G. Kher, the then Chief Minister of the Bombay province, who praised 'Jairamji' saying, "The school is blessed by the hand of a true ascetic, of whom we are proud."
Realizing the Dream of Higher Education
In 1963, 'Jairamji' established Ram Niranjan Jhunjhunwala Arts and Science College, fulfilling his dream of providing higher education. In 1964, he also established an Inter College in his native village of Rampur Majha, spreading education in rural areas.
'Jairamji' received dedicated support from committed colleagues in his work. Among the office-bearers of the Samiti were selfless individuals like Late Rameshwar Prasad Sabu, Late Thakur Dhruvraj Singh, Jugal Das Damodar Modi, and Late Ram Swaroop Upadhyay, who assisted him in every way. From starting with just 12 students in a small school to the establishment of R.J. College, this journey was the result of 'Jairamji’s' unwavering determination and strong willpower. Today, nearly 22,000 students study in the schools and colleges he founded. This is the story of his extraordinary success, beginning from humble beginnings.
